About Sri Oppiliappan Temple

Sri Oppiliappan Temple, also known as Thiruvinnagaram, is one of the most beloved Divya Desams in the Kumbakonam region, praised by Thirumangai Azhwar in the Divya Prabandham. The deity's name "Oppiliappan" means "the Incomparable One." The temple is famous for its unique tradition: all prasadam is prepared without salt, as legend states the Lord married Bhoomi Devi (Mother Earth) in such haste that there was no time to add salt to the wedding feast. This Vaishnavite shrine celebrates the divine marriage of Lord Vishnu and Bhoomi Devi, one of His three consorts. The temple is also associated with the sage Markandeya who worshipped Vishnu here and was blessed with immortality. Weddings performed at Oppiliappan Koil are considered especially auspicious in Sri Vaishnava tradition.
