Sri Kolavilli Rama Perumal Temple

Sri Kolavilli Rama Perumal Temple at Thiruvelliyangudi is a sacred Divya Desam in Nagapattinam district celebrated by Thirumangai Azhwar in the Divya Prabandham. The deity's name "Kolavilli Rama" means "Rama with the beautiful and deadly bow (Kol — killing, Vil — bow)," honoring Lord Rama's legendary prowess as the supreme archer who defeated the demon king Ravana. The Rama avatara holds a special place in Sri Vaishnava tradition as the embodiment of dharma and the ideal king who followed righteousness at all costs. The goddess is Sri Maithili (Sita), daughter of Mithila. Thiruvelliyangudi in Nagapattinam district preserves Chola-era temple architecture and is an important stop for pilgrims traversing the coastal Divya Desams of the Chola Nadu region.
