Divya Desam #106 of 108
Sri Paramapada Nathan at Thiruparamapadham (Sri Vaikuntha / Paramapadam) is the supreme and final Divya Desam — the eternal spiritual abode of Lord Vishnu that stands beyond all material creation. "Paramapadam" means "the Supreme Abode" (Parama = supreme, Padam = abode/state), and in Sri Vaishnava theology, it is the nitya vibhuti — the eternal, unchanging spiritual realm of pure consciousness and divine bliss, contrasted with the leela vibhuti (the material cosmos of change and karma). Here, Sri Paramapada Nathan sits in His full cosmic glory on the Adisesha throne, surrounded by Mahalakshmi, nitya-suris (eternal beings like Garuda, Ananta, and Vishvaksena), and mukta-jivas (liberated souls). Nammalvar's Thiruvaimozhi culminates with the poet's soul ascending to Paramapadam — the ten concluding verses describe his liberation and entry into Sri Vaikuntha, making this the ultimate destination of the entire Divya Prabandham. This is the goal of all Sri Vaishnava spiritual practice: to reach Paramapadam and serve the Lord eternally, never to return to samsara. The annual Vaikunta Ekadasi festival at Srirangam, when the Paramapada Vasal (Gate to Vaikuntha) is opened, is a ritual re-enactment of this supreme aspiration.
Thiruparamapadham is the Supreme Spiritual Abode, not a physical location. It is the eternal destination reached through divine grace (prapatti/saranagati). As Nammalvar sang, the Lord Himself carries the surrendered soul to Paramapadam at the end of their final birth.
