About Sri Nrisimha Temple (Ahobilam/Singavel Kunram)

Sri Nrisimha Temple at Ahobilam (identified in the Divya Prabandham tradition as Singavel Kunram — the "mountain of the lion-like one") is a powerful Vada Nadu Divya Desam in the Nallamala Hills of Andhra Pradesh. Ahobilam is uniquely home to nine forms of Narasimha (Nava Narasimha) spread across the upper and lower hill shrines — including Ugra, Jwala, Varaha, Malola, Kroda, Karanja, Bhargava, Yogananda, and Chatravata Narasimha. This is where, according to tradition, the Man-Lion avatar burst from the pillar to destroy Hiranyakashipu and protect the child-devotee Prahlada. Thirumangai Azhwar praised this kshetram with awe, and the Ahobila Mutt (Jeeyar Mutt), one of the premier Sri Vaishnava monastic institutions, was founded here in the 15th century by Srivan Satakopa Jeeyar. The fierce mountain terrain mirrors the fierce compassion of Narasimha — untamed, overwhelming, and utterly devoted to protecting the faithful.
