About Sri Soundararaja Perumal Temple

Sri Soundararaja Perumal Temple at Nagapattinam (known in the Divya Prabandham as Thirunagai) is a revered Divya Desam in the historic port city on the Bay of Bengal coast. Praised by Thirumangai Azhwar in his hymns, this Vaishnavite shrine is dedicated to the Lord whose name "Soundararaja" means "the King of Beauty." Nagapattinam, called Thirunagai in Sangam literature and the Azhwar hymns, was a thriving center of trade, culture, and spirituality in the Chola empire.
