About Sri Navamohana Krishna Temple (Gokula)

Sri Navamohana Krishna Temple at Gokula (known as Thiruvayppadi in the Sri Vaishnava tradition) is the Vada Nadu Divya Desam celebrating the pastoral childhood of Lord Krishna among the cowherds of Vraja. "Navamohana" means "the one who enchants in ever-new ways" — capturing Krishna's infinite capacity to delight. Gokula, across the Yamuna from Mathura, is where Vasudeva brought the newborn Krishna to be raised by Nandagopa and Yashoda in the idyllic cowherd settlement. Periyazhwar and his daughter Andal sang of this Gokula with unsurpassed tenderness — Periyazhwar imagining himself as Yashoda caring for the baby Krishna, Andal dreaming of being a gopi in Vrindavan. Nammalvar too praised the enchanting Lord of the cowherd village. The identification as "Thiruvayppadi" (sacred flute village) evokes Krishna's iconic flute, whose music made the entire creation stand still in rapture.
