About Sri Dwarakadhish Temple (Dwaraka)

Sri Dwarakadhish Temple at Dwaraka (also known as Jagat Mandir) is a Vada Nadu Divya Desam enshrining Sri Kalyana Narayana — the auspicious and beautiful Lord of Dwaraka. Situated on the western tip of the Saurashtra peninsula in Gujarat at the mouth of the Gomti River meeting the Arabian Sea, Dwaraka is one of the four Char Dham and one of the seven Mokshapuris of Hinduism. According to the Bhagavata Purana, Lord Krishna established this magnificent golden city as His royal capital after leaving Mathura, ruling here as the ideal king. Nammalvar praised the Lord of Dwaraka in Thiruvaimozhi, and Thirumangai Azhwar sang of this western kshetram. The five-storey temple with its 52-yard-tall shikhara flying the sacred flag (Dwaja) visible from far out at sea is an ancient marvel. Dwaraka represents Krishna's transformation from the playful cowherd of Vrindavan to the majestic king and supreme statesman — the Lord's leela encompassing all human roles.
