About Sri Paambanaiappan / Kamalapaada Perumal Temple

Sri Paambanaiappan Temple at Thiruvanvandur is a beautiful Divya Desam in the Alappuzha district of Kerala, praised by Nammalvar in the Thiruvaimozhi. The deity's name "Paambanaiappan" means "the Lord who reclines on the Serpent" (Paambu + Anai + Appan — Serpent + Bed + Lord), and He is also known as Kamalapaada Perumal, meaning "the Lord with Lotus Feet." The temple sits amid the tranquil backwater landscape of Alappuzha, reflecting the distinctive Kerala temple style with its copper-clad sloping roofs, large temple tank, and lush greenery. Kulasekhara Azhwar, the royal Azhwar of Kerala, is believed to have worshipped at this sacred site during his pilgrimages through the Malai Nadu temples. The temple preserves ancient rituals unique to the Kerala Vaishnavite tradition, including offerings of tulasi garlands and the ceremonial lighting of traditional nilavilakku lamps.
