Divya Desam #107 of 108
Sri Ulagalanda Perumal Temple at Thirukoilur (also known as Thiruvikramapuram) is one of the two Nadu Nadu Divya Desams, situated on the banks of the South Pennai River in the Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity, Sri Ulagalanda Perumal (Trivikrama — "the one who measured the worlds"), celebrates the Vamana avatar's cosmic act of measuring the three worlds in three mighty strides to reclaim the universe from King Mahabali. "Ulagalanda" literally means "the one who measured (alanda) the world (ulagu)." This is the birthplace of Thirumuzhisai Azhwar (also identified with Thirumazhisai by some traditions) and is intimately connected to the early Azhwar heritage. Nammalvar praised this kshetram in Thiruvaimozhi, and Thirumangai Azhwar also glorified the Lord of Thirukoilur. The "Nadu Nadu" classification — literally "middle country" — places this temple in a transitional zone between Chola Nadu and Thondai Nadu, reflecting its unique geographical and spiritual position in the Divya Desam network.
Nearest airport is Chennai International Airport (210 km) or Pondicherry (90 km). Thirukoilur has a railway station on the Villupuram-Vriddhachalam line. By road from Villupuram (30 km).
