About Sri Deepaprakashar Temple

Sri Deepaprakashar Temple at Thiruthanka, near Kanchipuram, enshrines the Lord as "Deepaprakashar" — "the One who shines with the radiance of a lamp (deepa)." This luminous name resonates powerfully with the foundational Thondai Nadu Azhwar tradition — for it was the three Mudhal Azhwars (Poigai Azhwar, Bhoothathazhwar, and Peyazhwar), all born in Thondai Nadu, who composed the famous Thiruvandhadhi trilogy using the metaphor of lighting a lamp to see the Lord. Poigai Azhwar lit the "lamp" of devotion using earth as the vessel and the ocean as the oil; Bhoothathazhwar used love as the vessel and passion as the flame; Peyazhwar saw the Lord revealed in that divine light. Thiruthanka is a peaceful village shrine preserving the old-world charm of Thondai Nadu's sacred geography around Kanchipuram. Thirumangai Azhwar also praised this temple, adding to its Divya Prabandham heritage.
