Divya Desam #88 of 108
Sri Bhaktavatsala Perumal Temple at Thirunindravur is a deeply significant Thondai Nadu Divya Desam in the Tiruvallur district, celebrated as the birthplace of Thirumazhisai Azhwar — one of the most revered of the twelve Azhwar saints and a great philosopher-poet born in Thondai Nadu. "Bhaktavatsala" means "the Lord who is tender and affectionate toward His devotees" — a name that perfectly encapsulates the relationship between the Lord and Thirumazhisai Azhwar, whose life story is marked by extraordinary divine interventions. The Azhwar, born to Sage Bhargava and raised by a humble family, explored various philosophical traditions before finding ultimate refuge in Vishnu, and his Nanmugan Thiruvandhadhi and Thirucchanda Viruththam are among the most philosophically profound works in the Divya Prabandham. Thirumangai Azhwar also praised this temple. The shrine preserves the intimate, devotion-soaked atmosphere characteristic of Azhwar birthplace temples in Thondai Nadu.
Nearest airport is Chennai International Airport (30 km). Thirunindravur has a railway station on the Chennai suburban network (Avadi-Thiruvallur line). Located about 30 km west of Chennai, easily accessible by suburban rail.
