About Sri Yoga Narasimhar Temple

Sri Yoga Narasimhar Temple at Thirukkadikai (Sholinghur) is a dramatic hilltop Divya Desam in Ranipet district where Lord Narasimha — the fierce Man-Lion avatar — is enshrined in His remarkably serene Yoga Narasimha posture, seated in deep meditation atop the Ghatikachala hill. The juxtaposition of Narasimha's ferocious origin story (bursting from a pillar to protect Prahlada) with His peaceful yogic form here teaches that the Lord's fury is only directed at evil, and His true nature is supreme tranquility. The hilltop shrine requires climbing about 500 steps, and a lower shrine houses Sri Anjaneya (Hanuman) in a grand standing form that is among the most revered Hanuman images in Tamil Nadu. Thirumangai Azhwar praised this temple, and the Thondai Nadu tradition of Narasimha worship is particularly strong in this region. Bhoothathazhwar also sang of the Narasimha avatar with great devotion. The panoramic views from the hilltop and the spiritual atmosphere of the forest-clad hill make this a transformative pilgrimage.
